Since 2006, the Departments of Building Typologies and of Structures and Structural Design of RWTH Aachen University offer courses, which integrate practical experience of the concrete realization of building projects into university education in the context of aid projects in South Africa. Within one year, the students go through all the phases of a building project from the first design drafts to the development of models, building plans and 1:1 mock-ups to realization; besides execution planning and quantity determination this also includes scheduling, financing and cost control.
