Post-earthquake Reconstruction and Demonstration Project in Ma'anqiao Village

maanqiao

This project is being hailed as the No. 1 post earthquake village re-construction and demonstration base under the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MoHURD) of China.

Ma'anqiao village is a typical village located in the poverty mountainous area of China. All village houses are traditional rammed-earth courtyard with common living spaces for both human and livestock. After the earthquake in 2008, due to its remoteness, poor accessibility and resources limitations, it was not re-built. There were a lot of remote villages like this.

The project aims to demonstrate and convey an affordable, ecological, sustainable, healthy and humane way of post-quake village rebuild that local villagers could afford, own and pass on. The main contents are as follows:

  • Bridge building and improve access.
  • Organize villagers to build the prototype house for technical training. Then help them rebuild their own houses under the supervision of our technical staff.
  • Rammed earth building technology experiment (on-site).
  • Build village center and demonstration base.
  • Organize craftsmen training workshops.
  • Organize public health education workshops. Help villagers to improve their residential environment such as hygiene conditions and conditions of livestock raising.
