HKGBC-CUHK Joint Seminars on 19 Jan & 26 Jan (posted on 29/01/2013)

Our team co-organised two mandatory CPD seminars on the topic of "Urban Climate for design and planning" with HKGBC (Hong Kong Green Building Council) on 19 Jan & 26 Jan. Prof Lutz Katzschner from Kassel University, Mr SM Lee from Hong Kong Observatory, Mr Bruce Chong from Arup, Prof Chao Ren and Prof Edward Ng from CUHK introduced different topics in the seminars, like climate change, AVA and the design in Germany. Around 195 professionals and postgraduates attended the seminars.

Talk on Sustainable Life and Design to secondary students (posted on 16/01/2013)

Prof Edward Ng gave a liberal talk on sustainable design and climate change on 3 Jan 2013 to around 200 F.4-F.6 students of Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School.

Keynote speech at Urban Meteorological Conference in Shenzhen (posted on 26/11/12)

Prof Edward Ng gave a keynote speech on "Meteorology, City and Living Environment" on 23 Nov in Shenzhen. Around 60 people attended.

Presentation at SE Asian Permaculture Convergence on 20 Nov (posted on 30/11/12)

Prof Edward Ng presented on "The Great Price to Pay for Zero Energy Living" at SE Asian Permaculture Convergence on 20 Nov. The audience is very impressed and touched.

InnoAsia 2012: Innovations for Green and Healthy Living

As the UC Map project of our team was selected as a demonstration project of CUHK, Prof Edward Ng attended the opening ceremony on 13 Nov and also chaired the CUHK Tech Forum 1 at the InnoAsia 2012.

Prof Edward Ng will chair "A Common but Diverse Future" at the CUHK Tech Forum on the theme of city planning and buildings on Nov 14, as one of the programme in the InnoAsia 2012. Please click here to view the event flyer.

At the same time, 2 models of our UC Map project will be exhibited in the exhibition of the captioned event.

SE Asian Permaculture Convergence on 19-22 November 2012 at Kadoorie Centre

Prof Edward Ng will give a keynote address at 10am-11.30am on the Energy Day which will be held on 20 Nov at Kadoorie Centre, Shek Kong. The topic of his speech is "The Great Price to Pay for Zero Energy Living". Please click here to view the information at the Convergence Website.

Urban Meteorological Conference on 24-25 November in Shenzhen

Prof Edward Ng is invited to give a keynote speech on "Meteorology, City and Living Environment" on 24 Nov at the Urban Meteorological Conference being held in Shenzhen.

Professor Edward Ng gave a talk to F.4 & F.5 secondary students on the topic of "Zero Energy Building and Zero Energy Lifestyle" on 28 September 2012 at St.Rose of Lima's College.

Lecture on "Planning Urban Climatically for High Density Living" (post on 07/09/2012)

Professor Edward Ng gave a luncheon seminar to 36 planners and architects of Planners Association of Hong Kong Housing Department on 6 September 2012. The participants had a good sharing with Prof Ng.

Professor Edward Ng gave a lecture on "Climate Information for Improved Planning and Management of High Density for Quality Urban Living" to around 20 Hong Kong Observatory staff on 31 July. Lecture on "Greening in the Urban Environment" presented by Prof Wong (posted on 12/06/2012)

Professor Wong Nyuk Hien has given a lecture on "Greening in the Urban Environment" at CUHK on 12 Jun 2012. Around 15 people from PlanD, Development Bureau, HKGBC, RLP and CUHK attended it. After the lecture, they had an in-depth discussion and communication on the greenery's impact and the implementation of evaluation tool.

Prof. Edward Ng has given a talk on "Sustainable Design in High Density Cities" to architects, designers and stakeholders in Architect's Forum of Build4Asia on 4 June 2012. Around 65 people attended the talk.

Lecture on "Greening in the Urban Environment" by Prof. N.H Wong of NUS (posted on 23/05/2012)

Professor Wong Nyuk Hien, is a professor in the Department of Building, National University of Singapore, who is currently working on an island wide Urban Climatic Mapping study commissioned by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore.
He will give a lecture on "Greening in the Urban Environment" at CUHK on 12 Jun 2012. All are welcome. Please view the event poster for details.

7 MSc students attended the lecture presented by Mr. Lawrence Chau on 2 May. They had an in-depth discussion with Mr. Chau on Air Ventilation Assessment and its application in urban planning of Hong Kong.

Collaborated with HKGBC, we have invited Dr. Ray Cole, the co-founder of the Green Building Challenge, to give a CPD seminar titled "Transitioning from Green to Regenerative Design" on 13 April 2012 (Friday). Training seminar on UC Map and Standards for Wind Environment Feasibility Study(posted on 15/03/2012)

Prof. Edward Ng gave a 3-hour training seminar on "Urban Climatic Map and Standards for Wind Environment Feasibility Study – Findings and Recommendations" to town planners of Planning Department of HK Government. Around 50 people attended this seminar.  It aimed to heighten the professional's awareness of urban climatic considerations in planning and design, and to provide colleagues of PlanD with an overview of the existing urban climatic conditions of Hong Kong and to outline the UCM Study findings and recommendations, including the Urban Climatic Planning Recommendation Map, planning and design measures to improve urban climate, the wind performance criterion and the refinements to the AVA System.
