Macau has undergone rapid urban development in recent years. Urban climatic information may assist designers and planners better strategically plan the city so as to result in a quality environment for the benefits and enjoyment of the local inhabitants and visitors. Like Hong Kong, Macau is located in the sub-tropical climatic zone with hot and humid summers. Optimizing urban human thermal comfort is important. The drafting of urban climatic map taking into account the synoptic climate information, planning and land use information can be a useful information tool. This 3-month study, as stage1 of drafting urban climatic map for Macau, will collate and expertly evaluate the existing climatic and planning information of Macau. An initial GIS based UCMap framework will be built up. (SS09634)
