My BMW K1200 RS

Acquired in April 1998 from Performance Motors, this BMW was my latest mount. It traveled 45,000km in just over 1 year, most of them touring in Malaysia and Thailand. Reluctantly, I sold it when I left Singapore June 1999.

The K12 is a very powerful and yet easy to ride bike. It has an in-line four 16-valve water cool engine. It boosts an anti-dive steering geometry (its handling remains almost constant during heavy braking and cornering). It has an optically controlled ABS system, a close loop catalyst converter and a computer controlled fuel injection system. It has just been voted the European Bike of the Year 1988, and has won a design award from the Chicago Museum of Art and Architecture.

For the performance minded, the bike turns out 130bhp and 118Nm of torque. This is more than some 2.0 litre cars can achieve and a lot more powerful, weight to weight than a Porsche. It could accelerate from 0 - 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds (a Porsche could do it in 5.2 seconds). It has a top speed of 155 mph.
